Welcome to G4KLX D-Star Software

The aim of this software was to create an open (as in open source) alternative to the existing Icom hardware and software. When I first got interested in D-Star I was shocked to find very little in the way of homebrew happening in D-Star. This hobby is based on experimentation and so I decided to go about writing some open source D-Star software.

My first piece of software in early 2009 was the D-Star Client available in the Digital Voice package, which allows a sound card, a DV-Dongle, and a 9600 Bd capable radio to become a D-Star transceiver. This very quickly had a spin off repeater based on the same technology, and things moved on from there.

The software has grown since then to become three packages. The Digital Voice package is user programs to allow access to D-Star systems over the air, and replicate the functionality of a D-Star radio. The Repeater package allows 9600 Bd capable radios to become repeaters or nodes using various different types of interfaces. Finally the ircDDB Gateway package allows these repeaters to take part in the ircDDB network as well as providing many more facilities to create a complete gateway package.

Each of the three packages contains a number of programs, and are supported by seperate Yahoo! groups for software distribution and support. The latest full release versions of the software are available from these web pages also.
